Church's Crisis: Why Tradition Is Failing, Explained by Chris Kilby
Chris Kilby made critical comments about the traditional Anglican Church structure in the UK. Here's what he said:
He pointed out that the traditional church has "got it painfully wrong," noting that the UK has had archbishops overseeing the church, "some of whom didn't even believe the Bible." He criticised that Christians have been appointed "not by the risen Christ, but who've been appointed by a secular government," calling it "a nonsense" and "utterly bonkers." He also mentioned that "you've got the secular nation's head as the head of the church," and stated "it's no wonder the church has failed to become the bride fit for a king."
He was contrasting this with the New Testament model of church leadership, where leaders are recognised as gifts given by the ascended Christ (the Ephesians 4 gifts) rather than being appointed by governmental or institutional authority. He quoted John Stott to emphasise this point about the importance of divine calling and divine equipment for ministry.
